This “short-cut” violates the National Electrical Code (NEC) and is a leading cause of electrical fires, as the wire can overheat long before the breaker ever trips.
We provided a comprehensive quote of $1,500 to perform a full safety remediation—removing the compromised 14 AWG wire, installing correctly sized 12 AWG wiring, and adding a dedicated 15-amp lighting circuit. While the homeowners unfortunately chose a path that maintains the illegal installation, Edify Electric remains committed to our core principle: We will never perform “patchwork” that endangers lives. Electrical safety isn’t about the lowest bid; it’s about ensuring your home remains standing and your family remains safe.
